Abermain Chemist opening hours cover six days a week on Cessnock Road, with longer weekday hours and a Saturday morning session. Here is what each part of the week is best for, and where to turn when we are closed.
What to come in for, and when
Weekdays
Weekdays give you the longest hours and the widest choice of services, including walk-in vaccinations during store hours, subject to pharmacist availability, with no appointment needed. If you would rather be sure of a time, call to book or enquire. The vaccination services page lists each vaccine.
Saturday mornings
The shop is open from 9:00am until midday. Walk-in vaccinations are a weekday service, so plan those for Monday to Friday. For anything else on a Saturday, such as a free health check, phone first to check a pharmacist can see you before the doors close.
Abermain Chemist opening hours on public holidays
For public holiday hours, please ring us in the days before the holiday to ask whether we will be open. The NSW Government's public holiday list shows these dates coming up:
- Labour Day: Monday 5 October 2026
- Christmas Day: Friday 25 December 2026
- Boxing Day: Saturday 26 December 2026
- Additional public holiday: Monday 28 December 2026
- New Year's Day: Friday 1 January 2027

When the pharmacy is closed
Emergencies: for chest pain, trouble breathing, extreme pain or unconsciousness, call triple zero (000). Healthdirect lists these among the reasons to call an ambulance.
For anything less urgent, the Healthdirect helpline on 1800 022 222 puts you through to a registered nurse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, who can advise whether to see a GP, manage at home or go to an emergency department.
Some pharmacies stay open late. Healthdirect suggests using its Service Finder to locate a pharmacy open late near you when you need a prescription filled after hours. For problems that are urgent but not life-threatening, such as minor injuries, it notes that Medicare Urgent Care Clinics provide bulk-billed care without an appointment.
